Omair Barkatulla created this cool video about the London Collage of Printing:
Veteran graphic design/typography and letterpress teacher David Dabner talks and gives an insight into the principles of design, creative letterpress and why computers make students sloppy.
Omair trained at the London College of Printing with 4 years experience in branding, digital and editorial design. Omair worked as Art Director for publishing clients such as Penguin Books and Emel Magazine. His strengths are in conceptual work and has an obsession with typography. His Masters specialised in Filmmaking and Visual Theory. He has produced several documentaries and has other academic/experimental projects on the go.
I watched this video a while back, but was great to see it again. I can’t agree with the PC making students sloppy. I have immense respect for the “old guard”, and I think we can learn a lot from them, but, the computer has led to any explosion of new typefaces and has made the rt of typography accessible to, well, just about everyone.
I haven’t forgotten about your wonderful Helvetica T-Shirt. It will definitely get a BIG mention. Thanks for all your support constructive criticism, and comments over at redsil and iLT–greatly appreciated!
